In Medell\u00edn, two nonprofit organizations have been working tirelessly for 25 years to rescue surplus food and distribute it to people in vulnerable situations. The Saciar Foundation and the Archdiocesan Food Bank Foundation are the two Food Banks that have been making a significant difference in the city. Both are part of \u00c1baco, the national network that brings together Food Banks from across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But what do Food Banks do?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2013 They rescue surplus food from the agricultural, industrial, commercial, hotel, restaurant sectors, as well as from individual donors.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2013 They distribute food to vulnerable populations through different social programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Aware of the importance of proper nutrition for children, young people, and adults to develop in a healthy way, Fraternidad Medell\u00edn has supported the Archdiocesan Food Bank of Medell\u00edn and the Saciar Foundation for more than two decades through donations that help join efforts to eradicate hunger in the city.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The results of this work each month are remarkable: the Saciar Foundation recovers approximately 7,000 tons of food per year and serves around 171,240 people in vulnerable situations.
