It all starts with a word. Then comes a sentence. And, almost before we know it, a whole new world opens up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learning to read and write isn\u2019t just a stage of childhood: it\u2019s the moment when a child begins to understand their surroundings, to put their dreams into words, and to discover that they have a place in the world. But when that process doesn\u2019t happen in time, opportunities begin to slip away, often without us even noticing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
That is why, at Fraternidad Medell\u00edn, we have been committed to early literacy for more than three years, recognizing it as an urgent and necessary step toward improving the quality of learning and reducing educational disparities in Antioquia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In partnership with various organizations, we have worked closely with teachers, school administrators, students, and families on literacy and remedial education initiatives in different regions of the department: in the East, through the ATAL Alliance (Let\u2019s All Learn to Read); in the Southwest, as part of the ERA Alliance (Rural Education for Antioquia); and in Urab\u00e1, with ATAL Necocl\u00ed alongside the Luker Foundation and the Grupo Social Foundation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
But beyond the direct impact on communities, at Fraternidad Medell\u00edn we have embraced these processes as a true learning laboratory\u2014a space to understand what works, what can be improved, and how to develop solutions that can be scaled up and turned into public policies capable of transforming realities on a larger scale. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, that goal is beginning to take shape. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In early 2025, a historic step was taken with the signing of the Alliance for Early Literacy for Children in Antioquia, a collective commitment by public and private stakeholders to address one of the most pressing challenges in education: the learning gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And in 2026, this commitment was reinforced with the launch of the Alfa Strategy by the Departmental Education Secretariat, an initiative aimed at improving children\u2019s reading and writing skills by strengthening the capabilities of teachers in public schools in non-certified municipalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Fraternidad Medell\u00edn, we have decided to join this effort, convinced that expanding our reach also means multiplying our impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today we are joining forces with the Government of Antioquia and the Antioquia Center for Science and Technology (CTA) in a partnership that will enable us to implement this strategy in key subregions such as the Eastern Region, the Magdalena Medio, and the Urban Southwest. This joint initiative combines resources, knowledge, and experience to reach more schools and more students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, we continue to strengthen local initiatives through the ERA Alliance in rural southwestern Colombia and the ATAL Necocl\u00ed program in Urab\u00e1, reaffirming our commitment to the communities that have been part of this journey from the very beginning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Because we know that when a child learns to read early on, it doesn\u2019t just improve their academic performance. It changes their relationship with the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alfa is, at its core, a commitment to the future. It is an invitation to ensure that every child has the opportunity to understand, to imagine, to express themselves\u2026 and to shape their own future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Fraternidad Medell\u00edn, we will continue working to ensure that this first step leads to many more. And so that, through education, we can continue paving the way toward a more equitable Antioquia. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
