Dreaming Big: Young Antioqueños at Purdue University

To dream of Purdue University is to imagine a place where ideas become projects capable of transforming the world. In its classrooms and laboratories, innovation, knowledge, and diversity are ever-present, as students from different cultures come together to learn, create, and challenge the impossible. Reaching Purdue means opening the door to a future full of opportunities, friendships without borders, and experiences that forever mark the lives of those who live them.

Ese sueño hoy lo encarnan Valeria, Juan y SebastiánThat dream is now embodied by Valeria, Juan, and Sebastián—three young people from Antioquia who, thanks to the support of the Fraternidad Medellín Foundation, are carrying out their research internships in Indiana, United States. Each of them proudly carries the name of their universities and of Fraternidad: Juan is working on the development of event-based cameras, Sebastián is decoding the proteome of resources directed toward mitochondria, and Valeria is studying the nutritional value that U.S. families obtain according to their purchasing habits. Their projects are, at their core, a reflection of what it means to unite passion, science, and commitment.

The impact of their efforts is already multiplying. Thanks to their results and determination, 40 students from universities such as EAFIT, ICESI, UIS, Los Andes, and the National University of Bogotá and Medellín have also begun their admission process to carry out internships at Purdue.

At Fraternidad Medellín, we believe in the power of dreams when paired with discipline and opportunity. These three young people—along with two others who have already completed their studies at Purdue University—remind us that the talent of Antioquia and Colombia has no borders, and that when we work with passion, the wings of knowledge can take us as far as we dare to dream.
