Exploring the World of Work to Discover the Path to Their Dreams

How can we choose what we want to become if we have not yet discovered all the possibilities available to us? For many young people, thinking about the future means facing questions, uncertainties, and decisions that can change the course of their lives. At Fundación Fraternidad Medellín, we believe that no one should have to navigate this journey without guidance, information, and opportunities to discover their talents and build their own life plans.

With this purpose in mind, we developed the Socio-Occupational Guidance Program (OSO), implemented by Corporación PAN. This initiative supports students during one of the most important stages of their education: choosing their path after high school, particularly a field of study that will allow them to continue into higher education.

One of the most enriching experiences offered by the program is its company visits, which give young people the opportunity to step outside the classroom and explore the world of work. During these visits, students discover how businesses operate, learn about different professions and occupations, understand the skills organizations need, and, above all, begin to imagine themselves in different professional roles.

So far, 570 young people from Titiribí, Támesis, Ciudad Bolívar, Andes, Fredonia, Carepa, El Carmen de Viboral, El Peñol, San Rafael, and San Carlos have had the opportunity to visit 17 companies across different economic sectors. Each visit opens a window to new possibilities and encourages students to connect their interests and abilities with the opportunities available in the labor market.

Among these experiences, we highlight the visit to AKT's facilities, where students had the opportunity to see the motorcycle assembly process firsthand, sparking particular curiosity and enthusiasm. Watching how individual components come together to become a finished motorcycle allowed them to gain a closer understanding of the knowledge, processes, and people involved in manufacturing.

But the true value of these visits goes far beyond learning about a company. It lies in the questions they inspire, the abilities young people discover within themselves, the professions they had never considered, and the new motivations they find to continue their education. Sometimes, a single conversation or experience is enough to help a student begin envisioning a future that once seemed out of reach.

At Fundación Fraternidad Medellín, we know that access to higher education begins long before a young person enters university. It begins when they discover what they are passionate about, recognize their abilities, explore their options, and develop the confidence they need to make decisions about their future.

That is why, through OSO, we want to continue supporting young people so that their choices become increasingly thoughtful, informed, and aligned with their dreams and the realities of their communities.
