Excellence in science education receives new momentum this year with the Ángela Restrepo Moreno Award, granted by the Antioquia Chapter of the Colombian Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences. In 2025, this prestigious recognition is supported by the Fraternidad Medellín Foundation, reinforcing a shared commitment to fostering scientific vocation among teachers and students across the department.
Created in honor of Dr. Ángela Restrepo Moreno (1931–2022)—a distinguished medical mycologist, researcher, and mentor—this annual award recognizes the most outstanding female science teacher from public primary and secondary institutions in Antioquia. Merits evaluated include leadership in student research groups, fieldwork, development of educational materials, and the ability to inspire new generations.
The 2025 call for nominations is open to teachers in Antioquia municipalities outside the Aburrá Valley, a strategic move to promote equity and recognize efforts in rural and underserved areas.
- Application deadline: Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
- Award ceremony: Thursday, November 27, 2025, during the Antioquia Chapter's annual formal session.
- Requirements: A document outlining the candidate’s merits, a résumé, and supporting materials showing participation in research groups, field or lab work, creation and dissemination of audiovisual or educational content, or other initiatives that promote scientific interest among students.
From Fraternidad Medellín, we invite school principals, education secretaries, teachers’ associations, and institutions involved in teaching and research to nominate deserving candidates for this important recognition.
