A recognition that honors our purpose and multiplies hope

In December, during a solemn ceremony filled with symbolism and gratitude, the President of the Fraternidad Medellín Board, Rafael Mejía Correa, received one of the most significant recognitions granted by the municipality of Rionegro: the Order of San Nicolás, Gold Category—the highest distinction awarded by the Municipal Council.

The ceremony took place in a setting that invites reflection and collective memory: the Museum of Religious Art of the Co-Cathedral of San Nicolás. There, within walls that have witnessed the history of Eastern Antioquia, the work of Fraternidad Medellín was honored, recognizing our solidarity efforts, social commitment, and the positive impact that has transformed the lives of many people by promoting inclusion, dignity, and community well-being.

This recognition not only honors decades of work; it also reaffirms the strength of a purpose that has guided every action of the Foundation: a deep belief in the power of opportunities to change lives and build a more just future. Every classroom built, every educational program strengthened, every community supported, and every young person who finds a path through education and opportunity represents the true essence of this distinction.

Since 2009, Rionegro and the Eastern Antioquia region have been key territories in the mission of Fraternidad Medellín. There, alongside public, private, and community partners, we have supported three schools—each with a strong bilingual education program—and two early childhood centers that serve nearly 30% of the municipality’s student population. Each of these initiatives aims to close gaps, promote rural development, strengthen educational quality, and create conditions for people to live with dignity and hope. The distinction granted by the Municipal Council is, at its core, a recognition of collective work, ongoing support, and the achievements accomplished—demonstrating that when solidarity becomes sustained action, it has the power to transform realities.

Receiving the Order of San Nicolás in its Gold Category also represents a renewed commitment. It is a call to continue working with the same passion, rigor, and human-centered approach that has defined our work. It is an invitation to keep building partnerships, listening to communities, and investing in solutions that generate deep and lasting impact.

More than an award, this recognition is a message of trust. Trust that the path we have taken is the right one. Trust that our commitment to education, territorial development, and equity remains urgent and necessary. And above all, trust that when we work from a place of fraternity, well-being stops being a distant aspiration and becomes a real possibility for thousands of people.
